Description (Service) | trains service dogs through 3 programs; Diabetes Alert Dog (DAD) program trains puppies as service dogs to match them with children with Type 1 diabetes * dogs are professionally trained to recognize low blood sugars and alert the child or get help; Personal Support Dog (DSD) program trains rescue dogs as support dogs to help mitigate the impact of high stress and mental health concerns in children and youth * dog acts as emotional and psychological support youth; Canine Ambassador Program (CAP) ambassador teams, made up of staff and pet dogs trained to be therapy dogs, promote positive socialization and calm interactions with a goal of promoting well-being and positive mental health * ambassador teams are trained to provide emotional support in the safety of the particular facility |
