Description (Service) Civil ceremonies will be conducted by an appointed Marriage Officiant of the Town of Newmarket * couples wishing to be married in Newmarket must have an Ontario Marriage License and a completed Civil Marriage Ceremony Questionnaire provided by the Town * a request for a civil ceremony must be received at least ten days prior to the date of the ceremony
Hours Office hours: Mon-Fri 8:30 am-4:30 pm * marriages may be scheduled for Wed from 1 pm to 3 pm, Thu from 1 pm to 3 pm., Fri between 10 am and 3 pm * off site weddings are also performed in York Region at one of the times listed or on the weekend * consultations can take place from Mon-Fri anytime between 8:30 am and 4 pm or in the evening

Eligibility Any person who is at least 18 years of age may marry * any person who is 16 or 17 years of age (other than a widow, widower or divorced person) may marry with the written consent of his/her legal guardian * a special consent form is available for this purpose from The Town of Newmarket * if any person whose consent is required is unavailable or refuses to consent, an application may be made to a judge to dispense with consent * a person whose previous marriage has been dissolved or annulled will require: if the marriage was dissolved or annulled in Canada, the original or court-certified copy of the final decree or certificate of divorce dissolving or annulling the marriage; or if the marriage was dissolved or annulled outside of Canada, the authorization of the Minister of Consumer or Commercial Relations; or where the earlier marriage of one of the parties was terminated by the presumed death of a spouse, a court order declaring the presumed death of the spouse must be obtained * an issuer of Marriage Licences can provide more information upon request
Application Both applicants are required to attend a pre-consultation with the Marriage Officiant * the consultation is to be scheduled to occur no less than one week prior to the date of the ceremony
