Description (Service) Literacy and Basic Skills and Employment Readiness Programs

Literacy, numeracy and essential skills services to assist in transitioning to employment, apprenticeship, secondary-school credit, post-secondary education or independence

Essential Skills Development Program: Basic computer training and employability soft skills program (self-paced courses in Basic Computers, Windows 2007 & 2010, Internet, Email Basics, MS 2013 Word, Excel, Power Point, Access) FREE for eligible participants * available to anyone in the community for a small administration fee per course

The MALL (Mobile Adult Learning Lab): A 10 laptop mobile learning lab equipped with educational and employment related software training programs that can be set up easily at YOUR LOCATION for a scheduled date and specific length of time * this program provides individuals with the opportunity to improve their computer skills and soft skills for employment
Hours Mon and Thu 9 am-5 pm, Tue and Wed 9 am-9 pm, Fri 9 am-1 pm
Dates Year round * closed Fri in Jul and Aug * phone ahead in bad winter weather

Eligibility Ages: 19 year(s) and up 
Primarily serves adult learners wanting to improve their literacy and numeracy skills to achieve goals of further education and training, employment or increased independence * must have facility in English and literacy skills below Grade 12 of the Ontario Curriculum  
Employment Readiness Program/ Mall Program: York Region residents who are unemployed or underemployed (20 hours a week) who require computer skills upgrading for employment
